GoVision’s Guide to Photographing LED Displays

Capturing the Brilliance: Professional Techniques for LED Display Photography

Camera Mode and Settings:

  • Use Shutter priority mode if available (Tv or S). If not, switch to Manual mode.
  • Also, set the shutter speed to 1/15s, 1/30s, 1/60s, or 1/125s to allow the display to refresh and avoid lines or grids.
  • Meanwhile, keep the ISO low, between 100 and 400, to reduce light intake and graininess.
  • Adjust the aperture to f/16 to f/22 to control the amount of light entering the camera.

Stabilize Your Camera:

  • Additionally, use a tripod for shutter speeds slower than 1/60s to avoid blurry images.

Optimal Distance and Angle:

  • Stand at a distance that aligns with the recommended viewing distance for the display’s resolution.
  • Experiment with different angles to avoid glare and capture the display’s full vibrancy.

Time of Day and Lighting:

  • Avoid photographing in bright midday sun. Early morning or evening times are ideal for softer light.
  • If possible, take photos of the shaded side of the sign for better exposure.

Subject and Composition:

  • Focus on capturing colorful or vivid artwork on the display to show off its capabilities.
  • Simultaneously, aim for a clean background to reduce distractions and make the LED display stand out. Avoid power lines, cars, and other signs.

Experiment with Exposure Settings:

  • Adjust exposure settings to balance the brightness of the LED display with the ambient light.

Editing and Post-Processing:

  • Use photo editing software to fine-tune brightness, contrast, and color balance post-shooting.

Check for Refresh Rate and Flickering:

  • Finally, be aware of the display’s refresh rate and adjust your camera settings accordingly to avoid flickering in the final photo.

Use the Display’s Features:

  • Furthermore, if the display has dynamic content or unique features like high-resolution or color ranges, highlight these in your photos.

 Practice and Patience:

  • Experiment with different settings and compositions. Sometimes the best shot comes from trial and error.

Moreover, by combining these tips, you’ll be well-equipped to capture stunning and professional-looking photos of LED displays, showcasing their clarity, color, and brilliance effectively.
